ENGELBACH-HART MUSIC FESTIVAL

You are cordially invited to attend the Engelbach-Hart Music Festival, to be held again this year in October. This admission free event is a gift to the community and will consist of three concerts. Friday’s program will be a Faculty Collage Concert, highlighting the exceptional talents of the 伊利诺斯州大学 music faculty.  Saturday’s concert will feature the return of acclaimed Bass-Baritone Frank Ward, who last sang on our stage in 2016. Sunday’s 3 p.m. concert will feature the internationally renowned a cappella vocal ensemble, Cantus. The “engaging” (New Yorker) low-voice ensemble Cantus is widely known for its trademark warmth and blend, innovative programming and riveting performances of music ranging from the Renaissance to the 21st century. The Washington Post has hailed the Cantus sound as having both “exalting finesse” and “expressive power” and refers to the “spontaneous grace” of its music making. The Philadelphia Inquirer called the group nothing short of “exquisite.”

Fine Arts Series Ticket Information:

Adult season tickets are available for $70, which is a $20 savings over purchasing tickets individually. Adult tickets to individual concerts are available for $20 per concert, except for the family programs on Oct. 20 and Mar. 13, when adult tickets will be just $5. As always, students of all ages and children are admitted free of charge to all concerts.

Founded in 2016, ~Nois has become one of the premier ensembles in the U.S. by combining contemporary classical music and improvisation in unique concert experiences. Heralded as “fiendishly good” by the Chicago Tribune, ~Nois has been awarded top prizes at prestigious chamber music competitions including the Fischoff and the M-Prize competitions. This program will feature a wide variety of new pieces from the Composers Alliance of San Antonio, written specifically for this ensemble. You will be amazed with their vivacious performance and virtuosity.

We are thrilled to welcome to 伊利诺斯州大学 the accomplished organist Adrienne Cox. A graduate of the New England Conservatory of Music, Cox earned her doctorate from the University of Iowa after postgraduate study in Germany. She has performed extensively throughout the US and was a featured artist at the Spoleto Festival. Her program will feature a diverse array of works from the organ’s greatest composers and is sure to delight and inspire.

Ho Etsu Taiko brings its youthful, energizing and powerful sound back to the Fine Arts Series stage again. Heavily influenced by the Japanese-American tradition of taiko drumming, but also drawing from the variety of musical influences found in the greater Chicago area, Ho Etsu Taiko pushes the traditional envelope often performing at cultural events and festivals throughout the Midwest.

Nationally acclaimed singer/songwriter, folk musician and educator from central Illinois, Chris Vallillo, returns to our series to present this lively, family-oriented program, which tells the life and times of our 16th President, Abraham Lincoln, through the music he loved.  Chris is sure to include some of his vintage instruments. This program is sure to delight both adults and children of all ages.
